Walmart to invest in rancher-owned Nebraska processing facility

Walmart has signed an agreement to acquire a minority stake in Sustainable Beef, LLC, a rancher-owned beef processor based in North Platte, Nebraska.

Walmart’s equity investment is part of a strategic partnership to source top-quality Angus beef from the new beef processing facility.  Tyler Lehr, senior vice president of merchandising for deli services, meat, and seafood with Walmart says the investment provides greater visibility into the beef supply chain and will help the company provide high-quality affordable beef to its customers.

The investment from Walmart will help Sustainable Beef, LLC open the facility.  It is expected to break ground in September and open in late 2024. The facility will process 1,500 head per day and will help create more slaughter capacity for the beef industry.

As part of the investment, Walmart will also have representation on Sustainable Beef’s board.
