House committee advances COVID package with ag provisions

The U.S. House budget committee has passed the nearly 2-Trillion-dollar coronavirus aid package which includes $16-Billion in ag and nutrition aid.

Rather than direct aid to farmers, the package includes five-Billion in debt relief, more than $3 Billion for the food supply chain, and stimulus funds for minority farmers.

More than six-Billion is in the combined package for child nutrition. The bill would deliver $1,400 stimulus checks while expanding unemployment benefits and raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

A vote on the full stimulus package is expected by the end of this week.
