Vilsack touts biofuels during Iowa stop

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he sees a promising future for biofuels.

“The 2022 numbers reflect a trajectory of growth in that industry,” he said during a stop in eastern Iowa on Tuesday.

Vilsack says the administration is looking to utilize renewable fuels to help bring down costs for consumers. “The President’s decision to wave the E15 restriction for this summer – in order to enhance gas supply and in order to help reduce gas prices a little bit – was important.”

He says sustainable aviation fuel is another area of growth. “Certainly, the administration’s commitment to the grand aviation fuel challenge, which is designed to produce eventually 35 billion gallons of drop in aviation fuel that is biobased, is a tremendous opportunity.”

Clean Fuels Alliance America says sustainable aviation fuel reduces carbon emissions compared with traditional jet fuel.
