Vilsack says pause in tariffs could lead to UK, EU trade talks

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he is pleased the U.S., European Union, and UK reached an agreement to suspend tariffs related to Boeing-Airbus case.

“We’ve taken a step in the Biden-Harris Administration to send the signal to the UK and the EU of potential opportunity for us to negotiate with the relaxation of the various tariffs that have been in place because of the Boeing-Airbus dispute,” he says.

He says it could potentially allow the U.S. to reach separate trade agreements with the UK and EU.

“Maybe that gives us an opportunity to have a conversation about trade agreements in both the UK and the EU and maybe it gives us the opportunity to open the door with the understanding that any trade agreement must include open access to agricultural products in order for it to be successful,” he says.

Vilsack spoke during the recent virtual Commodity Classic.
