Vilsack says ensuring Mexico, Canada fulfill USMCA is a priority

US Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says enforcing trade agreements like the US Mexico Canada Agreement is a top priority.

He recently met virtually with Canadian Minister of Agriculture Marie-Claude Bibeau.

“I brought up issues relative to wheat and the need for Canada to be open to the various varieties of wheat that is grown in the United States,” he says. “I also talked to her as well on dairy issues.”

He also spoke with Mexican Ag Secretary Victor Villalobos.

“I expressed the concern that many of us share about Mexican attitude about genetically engineered crops and the need and importance of having those crops being able to get into their market without barriers or interference,” he says.

Vilsack says he received assurance that there will be continued access to that market and opportunity to potentially grow it.

He made these comments during the virtual Commodity Classic.
