Vilsack says China will be accountable for Phase 1 Trade Agreement

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says China will be held accountable on trade.

Vilsack says he will “press” the Chinese on their commitments while prioritizing the trade relationship between the two countries. “We will likely see is an effort to make sure China understands that it is our expectation, and it should be their expectation that they live up to the agreements that they made.”

But Kansas Senator Jerry Moran says China’s inability to meet Phase One trade agreements is negatively affecting producers. “Agricultural imports that are expected to come from that and China is behind in its commitment to do so, but we earn a living in Kansas and in this country in agriculture based upon what we sell across the globe and those markets remain the driving force for what price we receive for our commodities.”

Both Vilsack and Moran spoke at the Ag Outlook Forum Monday in Kansas City, Missouri.

The event was sponsored by the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City and AgriPulse.
