Vilsack lauds Taylor, McKalip confirmations

US Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says two key trade positions will be critical for expanding market access.

“The secret sauce of trade is the need to have a continued presence in markets,” Vilsack said Thursday. “That’s why we see a continued increase in the number of trade shows that we’re doing at USDA, and why we continue to support programs with foreign market assistance.”

The US Senate recently confirmed Alexis Taylor as the USDA’s Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs and Doug McKalip as Chief Ag Negotiator within the Office of the US Trade Representative.

Vilsack tells Brownfield they could help make 2023 another big year for exports. “We’ve enjoyed two record years back to back in exports,” he said.

The positions had previously been vacant for two years.
