Utility uses annual farm show to teach electrical safety and efficiency

Matt Cullen

The WPS Farm Show gives the electric and gas utility an opportunity to work with more farmers about energy safety and efficiency.

Matt Cullen with Wisconsin Public Service tells Brownfield their farm consultants work with individual farmers every day, but having an electrical demonstration at the farm show helps them reach more farmers.  “They can talk with them about the safe use of electricity on farms, proper farm wiring techniques and equipment and materials, and they can also provide information about energy efficiency and ways to manage energy costs.”

Cullen says many farmers are looking for ways to upgrade wiring and ways to be more efficient, and they can show them examples here.  “Our display here shows people what the proper wiring systems are, what the proper breaker systems are like, and again, how they can safely use electricity on their farms.”

WPS has been organizing this farm show since 1961, when it was originally held in Green Bay.  Growth prompted them to move to the Experimental Aircraft Association grounds in Oshkosh in 2003, where they are expecting up to 20-thousand visitors over three days.
