USTR discusses ongoing trade issues with Canadian counterpart

Trade officials from the US and Canada discussed trade issues Tuesday.  U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai says the meeting with Canada’s trade minister Nary Ng (ing) focused on their shared goals, but Tai also expressed concern about Canada’s compliance with the one-year-old USMCA agreement.

According to the USTR office, Tai stressed the importance of Canada meeting its home shopping commitments under USMCA.  Tai also urged Canada to abandon a proposed unilateral digital service tax.  Softwood lumber and dairy issues were discussed, as well as World Trade Organization reforms.  Tai and Ng agreed to continue addressing these issues.  Tai is expected to comment further about the Mexico City meeting during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
