Usset in a “Missouri state-of-mind” on all things trade

An extension grain marketing economist says he’s in a “Missouri state of mind” on all issues concerning trade.

Ed Usset with the University of Minnesota tells Brownfield that’s because Missouri is the “Show Me” state.

“And I’m not going to buy in anticipation of anything. I’m not going to get bullish or bearish in anticipation of anything. I want to see it happen.”

He says a phase one signing ceremony with U.S. and Chinese trade officials Wednesday certainly sounds positive.

“And we can throw big numbers around, but I want to see things happen.”

Usset says he has a hard time seeing where the reported $40 to $50 billion in U.S. ag purchases is going to come from, especially as China continues to deal with African swine fever.
