USMCA one year later

Trade officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico will meet next week for the first anniversary of the USMCA’s entry into force.

During a “USMCA at One” virtual event this past week, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai stressed the importance that the implelmentation of trade agreements is ongoing.

“Working on this agreement is never going to be finished, and I think that’s a pretty critical notion, that we’re really trying to focus on which is these agreements are about relationships and relationships are dynamic,” she says.

The meeting in Mexico City will allow negotiators to discuss achievements and continue dialog following the first Free Trade Commission meeting in May.

The U.S. has filed a dispute settlement case against Canada for its implementation of dairy provisions in the agreement and the July meeting could allow for further discussion on the issue.
