USMCA dispute is apparently resolved

The United States and Mexico have apparently resolved a last-minute dispute over factory inspections that briefly threatened to derail plans for the House of Representatives to vote on the USMCA trade deal this week.

Mexico’s top trade negotiator, after meeting with U.S. trade officials in Washington, said he was “very satisfied” with their assurances that the U.S. would not have “labor inspectors” in Mexico. The confusion arose over language included in the USMCA proposal sent to Congress last week.

The USMCA deal is slated for a House Ways and Means Committee vote on Tuesday and a vote by the full House on Thursday.
