USGC chair says China must be held accountable on Phase One commitments

The chairman of the U.S. Grains Council says China must be held accountable on its Phase One trade commitments.

Chad Willis, a corn and soybean farmer from Wilmar in west-central Minnesota, tells Brownfield the Chinese need to live up to their agreements.

“DDG’s and ethanol would be a good fit to help (China) achieve their volumes of products they were supposed to take in Phase One, before we even worry about Phase Two.”

He describes the Biden administration’s approach to trade policy as “tight-lipped.”

“And I suppose with China, that’s the way you want to be. We keep putting the pressure on USTR, hoping that they will in turn put the pressure on China to live up to that.”

Willis says it’s unlikely China can match the record corn import pace of a year ago, but demand should remain strong.
