USGC applauds Vilsack “no compromise” approach to Mexico GM corn ban

The U.S. Grains Council applauds the stance taken by the Biden administration on Mexico’s proposed GM corn ban.

USGC CEO Ryan LeGrand says he’s happy to see Ag Secretary Vilsack engaged in the process.

“Saying there will be no compromise on the GM decree that Mexico’s president will be trying to implement.”

He tells Brownfield Mexico is reportedly willing to extend implementation of the corn ban one year to 2025.

“Which that puts it past the time that AMLO is out of office. So it’s not a complete solution, not a final solution, but hopefully that’s extended and he’s out of office in 2025.”

LeGrand says then the U.S. could deal with a new administration in Mexico that’s hopefully not opposed to genetically modified corn.
