USDEC leader sees export opportunities as EU, NZ restrict dairies

The President and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council says American dairy farmers have a different path to sustainability goals than many of their foreign counterparts.  Krysta Harden tells Brownfield U.S. producers are able to expand, while EU and New Zealand farmers are restricted. “When you talk about sustainability, there are just different philosophies that are being addressed on how to be, you know, an environmental solution.”

Harden says the European Union’s decision to limit the number of cows isn’t necessary in the U.S. “We have a different approach in the U.S. We actually said we can do this if we can do it right and better with technologies, with genetics, with changing how we produce milk and products.”

Harden expects the limitations on European and New Zealand cow numbers will only increase, leading to more export opportunities for U.S. dairy products.
