The head of the U.S. Dairy Export Council says recent shipping issues serve
as a reminder of how easily trade can be disrupted.
Krysta Harden tells Brownfield she’s relieved the Ever Given has been freed
from the Suez Canal and, even across the globe, it has slowed the flow of
trade.
“Commerce is very dependent on these trade routes, there’s just no doubt
about it,” she says. “When these issues happen, they do impact us and
they will for a while until they’re evened out.”
And she says container backlogs at West Coast ports continue to have an
impact on dairy trade. “And it will have a greater impact if we’re not able to
find solutions in the near term,” she says.
The U.S. Dairy Export Council is part of a coalition of more than 70 ag
groups raising concerns about port delays hindering ag exports.
