USDA will buy more pork products
The USDA has agreed to purchase up to 30 million dollars of pork products, which will be used for various federal food programs.
Though short of the 50 million dollars requested by the National Pork Producers Council in mid-August, NPPC president Don Butler says the announcement is still welcome news to pork producers. Butler commended Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack for recognizing the plight of pork producers and taking action to help them. He says the pork purchase and the ongoing efforts to reopen export markets are important steps to helping the industry bring supply and demand back into balance.
