USDA trade mission to the Netherlands

The Netherlands is hosting a USDA agribusiness trade mission this week.

Shane Frederick with the Specialty Soya and Grains Alliance is on the trip and tells Brownfield it’s lead by Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor.

“It’s an opportunity for a lot of different people in U.S. agriculture to go to a market to learn about different opportunities and challenges, as well as for some agribusinesses to meet in individual business-to-business meetings with potential buyers.”

USDA says combined U.S. ag exports to the region that includes Norway, Sweden and Denmark totaled $4.5 billion in 2022.

“For us with the Specialty Soya and Grains Alliance it’s an opportunity to talk about the specialty products that Europe might be interested in, especially them being non-GMO soybeans and specialty grains that can be used for food manufacture.”

Frederick says the Netherlands is an important gateway because it boasts the largest seaport in Europe, the Port of Rotterdam.
