USDA to reconsider GIPSA rules

The USDA says it will reopen the rulemaking process for the Farmer Fair Practices or GIPSA rule. The announcement was made during a hearing over a lawsuit filed by the Organization for Competitive Markets.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue withdrew the interim final rule last year. OCM says that the USDA illegally withdrew the rule Congress ordered to protect producers from unfair practices by large agribusiness companies.

The USDA says it will revisit GIPSA regulations in its spring 2019 regulatory agenda.
