USDA to purchase consumer-ready rice for food assistance programs

The USDA has announced it will purchase up to $50 million in domestically produced rice for distribution through food assistance programs.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has approved the purchase through the Commodity Credit Corporation Charter Act.

The consume-ready rice will be distributed through the nation’s food banks and food assistance programs.

Deliveries are expected to begin in November.
