The USDA says 2017 corn production totaled 14.604 billion bushels, up from December’s projection.

Last year’s average yield was a new all-time high at 176.6 bushels per acre, cancelling out a slight decrease in the USDA’s harvested area figure, down to 82.703 million acres. Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio reportedly notched new record high yields, along with Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Planted area was 90.167 million acres.

The USDA says objective yield data had the third highest ear count on record for the ten combined states of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, including a new record high in South Dakota.

In 2016, U.S. production was 15.148 billion bushels, with an average yield of 174.6 bushels per acre, planted area of 94.004 million acres, and harvested area of 86.748 million.

Record high yields were reported in Alabama, Delaware, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Harvested area was a new record high at 89.522 million acres and planted area totaled 90.142 million.

Final pod counts according to the department were up from a year ago in the 11 surveyed states, including increases in Missouri, Ohio, and Arkansas.

In 2016, U.S. soybean production was 4.296 billion bushels, with an average yield of 52.0 bushels per acre, planted area of 83.433 million acres, and harvested area of 82.696 million.
