USDA playing catch up

USDA has three weeks to catch up on backlogged work as the government restarts temporarily for the next three weeks.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says their top priority will be to start implementing the 2018 Farm Bill including making updates to the dairy program with the new Dairy Coverage Program.

The World Ag Supply and Demand Estimate will be released February 8th and give traders a better idea of stocks and production estimates which they have been missing for nearly two months.  It’s expected January numbers will be combined in the February report.

More than 60 USDA reports were delayed during the shutdown and are expected to be updated soon.

Perdue also says employees will receive paychecks as quickly as possible.
