USDA official says biofuels can meet climate goals

The USDA says biofuels must be part of the solution in the race to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Farah Ahmad, Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development, says using renewable fuels to meet climate reduction goals will help support American producers.

“It not only helps keep money in the pockets of farmers, but also lowers energy costs for consumers,” she said. “And so the benefits are big and small, not only for the climate and the global, but also for everyday Americans.”

She says that could lead to long-term success for the biofuels industry. “The innovation in the biofuels industry is so incredibly important to advancing a renewable and resilient clean energy future.”

Ahmad says the administration remains committed to the production of renewable fuels.

She spoke during the 2023 Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit.
