USDA narrows down applicants for relocating ERS & NIFA

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has narrowed down the list of possible new sites for the Economic Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.  The USDA’s first cut has 67 finalists from 136 initial applications.

The list of finalists includes nine in Illinois, six in Ohio, five in Iowa, three in Minnesota, two in Nebraska, and one each in Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin.

Perdue says USDA will make the best choice for employees and customers and says relocation will help ensure that USDA is the most effective, most efficient, and most customer-focused agency in the federal government.  Relocating the ERS and NIFA has received criticism from the scientific community, which stresses the importance of being close to other collaborators in the D.C. area.
