USDA is investing nearly $4 million in broadband in Indiana

The USDA is investing nearly $4 million to provide broadband service in unserved and underserved rural areas in Indiana.

The investment is part of the $550 million Congress allocated in the second round of the ReConnect Program.

USDA Undersecretary Ted McKinney said he’s so glad to see the investment in infrastructure in his home state of Indiana. McKinney says he’s hopeful the investments can help farmers operate more effectively and efficiently.

Jackson County Rural Electric Membership Corporation will use a $1.9 million loan and a $1.9 million grant to deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network to connect nearly 5,000 people, nearly 200 farms, and 36 businesses to high speed broadband internet in Indiana’s Jackson and Lawrence counties.
