USDA Domestic Hemp Production Program “a good starting point”

The president of the Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association calls USDA’s Domestic Hemp Production Program a good starting point.

“I think they’ve addressed a number of issues. The question is, what else will arise?”

Dave Ladd tells Brownfield there will continue to be a learning curve for hemp farmers, processors, and regulators.

“I think this 2020 growing season is going to be used to test-drive this interim rule, which will guide adjustments that will need to be made for the final rule.”

The interim rule sunsets in two years.  Ladd says regulations surrounding the interstate transportation of hemp, as well as proper financing and risk management tools for growers are areas that still need to be addressed.
