USDA begins application process for new fertilizer grant program

The USDA is now accepting applications for its $500 million grant program that aims to increase US fertilizer production.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says he’s hopeful independent suppliers will apply for grants under the new Fertilizer Production Expansion Program, and not the dominant fertilizer companies.

He says the program should help create competition and combat price hikes on US farmers caused by the war in Ukraine. Grants ranging from $1 million to $100 million will be awarded.

For information on the application process, visit the USDA Rural Development website.
