USDA: 62% of U.S. soybeans, 41% of corn harvested

This year’s U.S. corn and soybean harvest continues to inch forward. Weather has been a negative influence for much of the growing season, with an historically slow start to planting because of wet conditions, followed by widely variable weather from development through harvest. Parts of the Corn Belt are expected to see colder temperatures and even snow this week.

The USDA says 93% of corn has reached maturity, compared to the five-year average of 99%, with 41% of the crop harvested, compared to 61% on average. 58% of corn is rated good to excellent, up 2% on the week.

97% of U.S. soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to the usual pace of 99%, and 62% of the crop is harvested, compared to 78% normally in late October.

85% of winter wheat is planted and 63% has emerged, both very close to average, with 56% of the crop in good to excellent shape, 3% more than the first rating last year.

95% of cotton bolls have opened and 46% is harvested, ahead of normal, with 40% of cotton called good to excellent, down 1% from a week ago.

97% of rice is harvested, compared to 98% on average.

45% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, a week to week improvement of 2%.
