USDA: 23% of U.S. corn, 6% of soybeans planted

The USDA says U.S. corn and soybean planting remains slower than normal after another generally wet week.

As of Sunday, 23% of U.S. corn is planted, compared to 36% a year ago and the five-year average of 46%, and while some areas made solid progress, more saw continued delays. 6% of the corn crop has emerged, compared to 13% on average.

6% of soybeans are planted, compared to the usual pace of 14%.

64% of winter wheat is rated good to excellent, steady on the week, but with 3% moving from excellent down to good, as wet weather continues to impact soft red winter conditions in the eastern Midwest. 29% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 41% typically this time of year.

22% of spring wheat is planted, compared to 49% normally in early May, with 4% of the crop emerged, compared to 19% on average.

60% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, compared to 42% a year ago.
