USDA: 15% of U.S. corn, 14% of soybeans harvested

The USDA says the U.S. corn and soybean crops continue to exhibit the effects of the historically slow start to planting.

As of Sunday, 93% of the corn crop has dented, compared to the five-year average of 99% and 58% has reached maturity, compared to 85% on average, with 15% of the crop harvested, about half of the normal pace. 56% of the crop is rated good to excellent, 1% below a week ago.

72% of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 87% usually in early October, and 14% is harvested, compared to 34% on average. 53% of U.S. soybeans are called good to excellent, 2% less than last week.

52% of winter wheat is planted, just behind the normal pace, and 26% has emerged, matching the five-year average.

91% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to 99% on average.

83% of cotton bolls have opened and 25% of the crop is harvested, both ahead of normal.

76% of rice is harvested, compared to the usual pace of 80%.

45% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, unchanged on the week.
