Uneven yield prospects across Corn Belt

Hopes for a bumper crop are dwindling in parts of the Corn Belt.

Wyffels Hybrids technical product manager Brent Tharp says it’s been too dry in some areas and too wet in others.

“Kind of depends on where you’re at and if you caught some rains at the right time. I’ve been saying the Pro Farmer Tour, they’ve got it in the right direction I’d say. They’ve identified the areas that’s a little lower, less than expected I guess.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa, he says crop conditions worsen to the west.

“As you move out, western Iowa. Then as you move east across Iowa, it picks up (and) you get some better spots. Northeast Iowa is really good.”

And Tharp says Illinois “is sitting on a decent crop.”
