Ukraine dairy carries on during war

A Ukrainian dairy operation has carried on despite the threat of attacks from Russia.

Kees Huizenga told the National Milk Producers Federation the crop and livestock operation continues business as usual because their 2,000 cows don’t care if there are rockets, they still have to be milked.  Huizenga says he talked to the farm employees, asked them to stay and not panic, and all of them did.

It has not been easy.  Huizenga says the farm, the creamery, and the processing factory never skipped one day in picking up the milk and they never skipped a day in paying.  He says the farm also gave some milk for free which was processed for free and given to refugees and to the army. Huizenga says a lot of farmers did similar things to help their neighbors.

Huizenga says the dairy is far from the front line, but there is still risk and

He knows farmers who’ve been tortured and killed during the war.
