U.S. soybean condition steady on the week, but good to excellent corn drops 4%

U.S. soybean condition ratings held steady on the week, but corn rated good to excellent dropped four percentage points.

The latest USDA crop report says as of Sunday, 71 percent of the nation’s corn acreage is in good to excellent condition, compared to 75 percent a week ago.  Corn emergence, at 95 percent, is slightly ahead of the five-year average of 92 percent.

Soybeans in good to excellent condition remained at 72 percent, with 93 percent of the crop planted and 81 percent emerged.

More than 90 percent of winter wheat in the U.S. has headed, and 15 percent has been harvested.  The most progress is in Texas at 68 percent complete.

Spring wheat emergence is close to normal at 95 percent.  Four percent has headed and 81 percent is rated good to excellent, a one percent drop on the week.

Cotton planting advanced to 89 percent, compared to 91 percent on average.  Crop condition ratings were steady on the week at 43 percent good to excellent.

Rice is 93 percent emerged and four percent headed, slightly behind normal.  The condition improved a percentage point to 71 percent good to excellent.

Sorghum planting is at 79 percent, 48 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent, and 16 percent has headed.
