U.S. Senators press for USMCA dairy resolution

Senate Ag Committee leaders are calling on the U.S. Trade Representative to hold Canada accountable to the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

Senate Ag Committee chair Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and Ranking Member John Boozman of Arkansas say there’s been no improvement in Canada’s tariff rate quotas and it’s time to initiate a second dispute panel.

Separately, Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Wisconsin Democrat, is also calling for a second dispute panel.  She says Canada failed to make the required changes and the precedent raises broader concerns about the effectiveness of the dispute settlement mechanism overall.

The National Milk Producers Federation and U.S. Dairy Export Federation are thanking the Senators for their efforts.
