U.S. ethanol stocks close to one year high

The U.S. ethanol supply is the largest in nearly a year.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says stocks hit 50-week high at 26.394 million barrels, an increase of 1.074 million on the week and 449,000 on the year.

The Renewable Fuels Association says stocks moved higher across all regions, including a significant build in the U.S. Gulf, which is usually an indicator of export demand.

Production averaged 1.014 million barrels a day, up 4,000 from a week ago, but down 12,000 from a year ago.

Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development says operating margins for the average Iowa producer were in positive territory, close to the highs of the year.

Net inputs by ethanol refiners and blenders and the volume of gasoline supplied to the market were both above the previous week, but below last year’s levels.

The USDA’s updated corn for ethanol use estimate is out April 11th.
