U.S. ethanol production down slightly

Programs ICON

U.S. ethanol production was down for the second week in a row, but remains very close to the recent all-time high.

The recent high production levels have been because of the high availability of corn, a decline in price, and improved plant efficiency.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says ethanol production for the week ending August 26th averaged 1.023 million barrels per day. The 2016 production pace is 8% ahead of 2015.

There are signs consumer and export demand are slowing, with stocks up around 100,000 barrels to 20.926 million barrels, their highest level since mid-July and 10% larger than this time last year.
