U.S. corn, soybeans in good shape, but some states lag

The projected record U.S. corn and soybean crops continue to develop faster than average in most growing areas.

The national crop condition ratings for both were steady on the week and remain above a year ago, but ratings for individual states, and districts within those states, vary widely.

As of Sunday, 73% of corn is at the dough making stage, compared to the five year average of 60%, and 21% has dented, matching the typical pace. 74% of the corn crop is rated good to excellent, with a low of 42% in Ohio.

95% of soybeans are blooming, compared to 93% on average, and 80% are at the pod setting stage, compared to 75% normally this time of year. 72% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape. At 51% good to excellent, Ohio also has the lowest condition rating of the top 18 producing states.

97% of the winter wheat crop is harvested, just ahead of average.

48% of spring wheat has been harvested, compared to 30% on average, and 66% of the crop is rated good to excellent, down 2%.

51% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition.
