U.S. corn planting 36% behind normal

U.S. corn planting remains well behind normal as wet conditions persist.

The latest crop progress report from USDA says 30 percent is planted, compared to the five-year average of 66 percent.

Corn emergence, at 10 percent, is nearly 20 percent behind normal.

The pace of soybean planting remains at a near standstill, only moving three percentage points in the past week to 9 percent done.

Improved weather in the Upper Midwest did allow for spring wheat to jump from 22 to 45 percent in the last week, still 25 percent behind the typical pace.

Forty-two percent of U.S. winter wheat had headed, 54 percent is normal.  And 64 percent is rated good to excellent, steady with last week.
