U.S. celebrates several tariff wins

A key trade official says the U.S. is celebrating several key victories on tariffs.

Chief Ag Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative Doug McKalip spoke to Farmfest attendees Tuesday morning, saying there’s a lot to celebrate on the export front.

“This year, Japan announced the expansion of its beef safeguard. This is over a $2.3 billion market for U.S. beef, and it will mean that Japan will accept even more beef in 2023.”

He says Japan also lifted barriers on U.S. ethanol.

“Which will mean that the U.S. can capitalize 100 percent on the road ethanol market in Japan.”

McKalip says other wins include Jordan eliminating tariffs on fertilized eggs and drastic changes to India’s tariff policy that benefit U.S. biofuel, cotton, and animal feed products.
