Tyson suspends operations at its Waterloo, Iowa pork plant

Tyson Foods says its suspending operations indefinitely at its pork processing plant in Waterloo, Iowa.

The company said it became impossible to keep the plant open with many workers absent because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The plant has three-thousand employees and can process nearly 20-thousand hogs per day, about four percent of the pork processing capacity in the U.S.

Tyson officials warned that the closing of the plant would have “significant ramifications” for hundreds of hog farmers, truckers and others in the pork supply chain.
