Tyson prepares to close Logansport, Indiana facility for 14 days

The Tyson pork processing facility in Logansport, Indiana, is preparing to close for 14 days in response to several COVID-19 cases among workers. Indiana Farm Bureau says the Cass County Commissioners voted to close the facility today and Tyson has voluntarily agreed to the two-week closure so testing and tracing can occur.

Tyson’s Logansport, Indiana facility processes about 15,000 hogs per day, or roughly 3 percent of the total capacity.

Indiana Farm Bureau President Randy Kron says he has talked with Indiana Pork Producers Association, Governor Eric Holcomb, and Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch about the impact the closure of the facility will have on pork producers who sell hogs to Tyson. Kron says they are asking all local and state officials involved to find an “innovative solution to re-open the facility.”

INFB is also asking the Indiana State Department of Health and Board of Animal Health to use their authority to take lead in working with local officials and Tyson to ensure the plant is open as soon as possible.
