Tyson diverting pigs following fire at Nebraska processing facility

Tyson Foods is diverting pigs from its Madison, Nebraska pork processing plant following the weekend fire that temporarily closed the facility.  The plant slaughters around 8,250 hogs per day or about 2% of the daily U.S. hog slaughter totals.  The pigs that are normally received at the affected plant will be shipped to other Tyson Foods pork facilities.

In an email to Brownfield, Tyson officials said the company does not expect the move to disrupt Tyson’s ability to meet its customers’ needs.

The plant will have limited operations for the remainder of the week while it fully assesses the damage and begins repairs.  Tyson says full-time and active team members will be taken care of as the company gradually resumes production. The plant has about 1,200 employees.
