Two of the ’17 IL Master Showmanship winners

The overall champion of the Illinois State Fair Master showmanship contest is Lucas Aylesworth (54) of Mount Pulaski.  He says he’s used to swine and has shown cattle in the past but showing sheep was something new, “Sheep’s where the preparation was required. I was with a buddy of mine who shows at my county fair and he helped me get ready and I appreciate him a lot for all he’s done for me.” Ayelsworth says he was shocked and honored to win the overall award.

Mackenzie Bergin (21) won the beef division, plus second place overall, “I’ve shown cattle since I was about eight years old. I have two calves at the state fair right now. I actually started showing pigs a couple years ago. I have three gelts and two barrows here at the state fair and then I actually have one ewe, and she’s a Hampshire ewe, so I’m adventuring into something new.”

Aylesworth and Bergin be among the winners participating in the Sale of Champions at the State Fair Tuesday night.
