Truterra carbon program extends enrollment to June 30th

Land O’Lakes’ sustainability business has extended the enrollment period for its carbon program.

Mariah Murphy, senior manager of member-owner engagement for Truterra, says farmers can earn up to $25 per ton for any carbon stored in their soils between 2019 and 2021.

“And those include specific practices such as anyone who has transitioned to no-till (or) strip-till, addition of cover crops, those would be the practices that qualify.”

She tells Brownfield an additional one-month sign-up period ends June 30th.

“We did have an enrollment period that ran from basically January to the end of February, (but) due to buyer demand we have decided to just go ahead and open that back up.”

Murphy says farmers are paid in full after successful verification and Truterra covers all soil sampling and verification costs.

The carbon program is delivered in 17 states through Land O’Lakes’ network of ag retailers.
