Trump says aid for farmers, ranchers coming soon

President Trump has directed Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue to expedite aid to farmers and ranchers. Trump says the administration will release a $16 billion program to provide relief and keep the supply chain moving during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus stimulus bill provided $9.5 billion for livestock producers, specialty crops, and local food systems and $6 billion is currently available in the Commodity Credit Corporation. The bill also provided $14 billion for the CCC, but that won’t be available until July.

Ag groups continue to ask for COVID-19 relief. Perdue has said the USDA is working quickly to design a “fair and equitable” program to alleviate disruptions to agriculture.
