Trump pushes for RFS common ground

President Donald Trump reportedly is pushing lawmakers and stakeholders to find common ground on disagreements about the Renewable Fuel Standard.  Thursday’s White House meeting was to discuss how to fix RFS compliance issues in a way that protects both refinery workers and corn farmers.  A joint statement from GOP oil-state senators following the meeting called the gathering productive.  The statement says oil-state lawmakers look forward to working with colleagues representing Midwest states to find a win-win solution.

According to Agri-Pulse, the issue is complaints from refiners about the cost of buying RFS compliance credits, referred to as Renewable Identification Numbers, or RINs.  It’s how refiners comply with the biofuel usage mandates.

Media reports say possible solutions were discussed, but no agreement has been reached.  The parties are committed to further discussions.
