Trump, House says USMCA has enough votes to pass

House Democrats remain split on the USMCA trade agreement, but President Trump says there are enough votes to pass it and send USMCA to the Senate.

AgriPulse reports Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka about labor and enforcement concerns Tuesday, and the meeting also included several freshman Democrats pushing for a vote before the Christmas recess.

Democrats including Cindy Axne of Iowa, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Abigail Spanberger of Virginia, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal of Massachusetts want USMCA ratified yet this year.  Neal is hoping to see a revised text from Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer this week.

There are still several Democrats who won’t support USMCA because of low Mexican labor rates that prompt companies to move production and jobs out of the U.S.
