Trucking apprenticeships seek to entice new drivers

The Departments of Labor and Transportation are partnering with the American Trucking Associations as part of its registered apprenticeship program to increase the number of drivers across the U.S.

American Trucking Associations is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry which estimates a shortage of more than 80,000 drivers.

Drivers in the program will help accelerate efforts to enhance supply chains including food and agriculture which are heavily reliant on trucking.  As a federally registered program, participants receive paid, on-the-job training along with support like childcare, housing allowances, and more.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is also providing over $30 million in funding to help states expedite CDLs.
