Transportation issues top of mind for Iowa farmer

An eastern Iowa farmer says transportation is one of his biggest fears as he finishes harvesting this year’s crop.

Lance Lillibridge raises corn, soybeans, and cattle in Benton County.

“I think the bigger concern is going to be these railroads and what happens here later in December, and whether or not they keep running or if they go on strike,” Lillibridge said.

He tells Brownfield he’s closely watching the low water level situation along the nearby Mississippi River.

“I don’t think there will be one individual, whether you are farming or running any kind of business, that won’t be impacted by those transportation issues,” he said.

Lillibridge says labor availability for the trucking industry is another concern.
