Trade groups ask Congress to step in regarding trade

Nearly 60 trade groups are asking Congress to provide oversight on President Trump’s use of tariffs.

The National Corn Growers Association, North American Meat Institute, and the National Barley Growers Association are among the groups that sent a letter to the chairmen and ranking members on both the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means committee.

The group expressed concern about the administration’s wiliness to use tariffs as a political tool and asked Congress to step in.

the letter says that the use of tariffs by the Executive Branch is upsetting the historic balance between congressional and Executive powers, which has worked for many decades.

The group says that Congress must “reassert that balance” so that the US remains a trade leader.
